RT: The life of a #lifecaster - haters gonna hate
Alritey then ... this is a response to @JenSquard's post "The Life of a #Lifecaster - haters gonna hate. So first, totally go and read that. It's totes mcgotes awesome sauce ... I'll wait right here for you. Doop dee doop dee doo. Dude, you read that entire thing? Speed reader this one is.
Poor dear. I got a text from her last night when I was on my way to this CES event just saying that she was getting some hate and what not. Hate mail is not fun ... but its a very big part of putting yourself out there on the internet. It just comes with the territory, its more a matter of how do you respond to it, not will you get it.
I explained to her last night that its an artist's job to elicit a response from people. And yes, lifecasting to me is very very very very veryyyyy much an art form. Takes serious skill, no doubt. At the same time, it takes a certain level of confidence in who you are as a person to be able to manage it accordingly.
I VERY literally cannot be offended. I know that sounds really weird, and certainly will want to entice some of you to try ... but I just don't care. I found my awesome, its mine not yours, and it was totally organic. I own my shit ... but that took me YEARRSSS to get to! I've been doing this since 2007. In the internet world, that's like forever and ever. People call me stupid, people tell me that I'm ugly - and I just kinda laugh. Awesome! I got a response ... that's my only job.
Anything vanilla online translates to death. You WANT people to have a reaction.
You WANT people to be passionate about you one way or another. Who wants someone who's just meh? Pas moi!!!
I advised her to just thank the person for joining in on the conversation, and move on. I always offer for people to send me an email, or send me a post with their opinion. I'm totally down to listen to everything, and appreciate the input knowing that my opinion isnt the be all, end all. It's very black and white ... but a job well done for speaking your mind and putting yourself out there. The majority of people prolly even agreed with you, but they just dont comment on things.
I know I'm a total hippie, but you gotta just let it be man. Own your shit, and let it go. I'm so so so proud of you Jen, and all that you're about. You're an AMAZING addition to TNTML ... and a very talented lady.
I commend and applaud you for putting yourself out there. Just keep on keepin on!
