Happy Super Bowl hangover everybody! Hope you all enjoyed the huge game on Sunday, I know I did. It was such an awesome match-up between two really interesting teams, and in the end it came down to a 21-17 score in the Giants favor. What was a bit unfortunate was the bad luck on the side of the Patriots. Even though I was cheering for the Giants, I always want both teams to be at full strength so a winner can truly be decided. Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots biggest offensive threat short of Tom Brady, was hurt with an ankle sprain and was seriously limited the whole game. Along with “Gronk's” injury, the Giants had every little bit of luck on their side. They fumbled the ball 3 times, and the ball fortuitously bounced back to the Giants every time. The Patriots best WR Wes Welker also had a wide open drop on a very late 3rd and 11 that was devastating to their comeback cause. Even though the Patriots were a bit shorthanded, they still had their opportunities to win the game and they did not take advantage of them. In the end there are no excuses, and the Giants are the Super Bowl Champions!
Last week I had a contest for all my readers, if you picked the Super Bowl winner then you would receive a shout-out in this week's post! There were 5 tweet entries, and 4 of them were winners. The winners were...@MissyLori, a Packer's fan at heart; she went with her bf and took NY. Good choice. ;) @DeniseHerrmann2/Bill's pick, although he picked the Giants to win by 22 points, I did not require a score. So congratulations on nailing your pick! @garbagegod made this pick his bitch, he missed the score by a few points on both sides, but was the closest of all 5 contestants. 1st place! @TheRealCWray, he turned in his pick passed the due date, and I was debating his eligibility...I have decided he gets ½ credit. Nice call on the Giants dude, but invest in a watch and tweet on time! Congratulations to all the contestants on their great picks, and congratulations to me! I cannot compete in my own competitions, and for good reason. I would of owned these fools! Haha. My pick was Giants 20-17, I missed by 1 point! More contests will be held later, read up and tweet in your picks (@DerekJ_AllDay) to get shout-outs in my posts! If you win, you can even LMK what you want said. Holla back!
After the Super Bowl ended, and the Giants were named the Champions, Tom Brady was upset...but few knew how upset his wife Gisele Bundchen was going to be. A video was released where she can be quoted as saying, “My husband can not fucking throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times...” I love this! It sounds like something I would yell at the Angels! I always pictured Tom Brady's wife as someone who didn't care about football. Contrary to my previous beliefs she is really passionate about her QB husband and the Patriots. Well, maybe not Wes Welker so much. To be fair, other receivers had key drops late in the game also. Anyways, I was shocked in the best way when I heard about this. I just wanted to throw props over to Mrs. Bundchen, and tell her to keep fighting for your team!
In conclusion, I would like to show love to my home town shooting guard (SG), Kobe Bryant. (This part of my post will be extremely statistic heavy, but just read on and be amazed by the career of this player.) For those who lived the Brendan Fraser movie “Blast from the Past,” (google it) Kobe Bryant is the best or the second best NBA player of all time depending on who you ask. He is the starting SG for the Los Angeles Lakers and he has been since 1996. He led the Lakers to back to back to back championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002, and then back to back again in 2009 and 2010. Along with his five NBA Championships, he is a 14-time All-Star, 9-time All NBA First Team, 9-time All Defensive First Team, a 2-time NBA Finals MVP and was MVP of the entire NBA one time. Despite how amazing all of this is, none of those stats are the reason I am writing this. Monday night Kobe Bryant pulled up and buried a jump shot worth 2 points to take Shaquille O'Neal's position as the fifth highest all-time scorer in NBA history. He now trails Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabar on the all-time scoring list. Since Kobe is 33 years old, and about 2000 points away from first, it is fair to speculate that he might be able to retire as the #1 all-time NBA scoring leader. This would be a monumental feat, and only time will tell if he can do it. Congratulations Kobe!
