Hello @TNTML! It’s good to be writing for our awesome readers again. I have had quite a few posts under my belt now and it has been a really fun time. I hope you are all enjoying my posts, and if you have any comments I welcome all feedback or just conversation by tweeting me @DerekJ_AllDay.
The sports world has been running a bit slow lately, and that really isn’t much of a surprise. I would like to officially welcome all of you to the purgatory moment of every year in sports. This is the first week after the Super Bowl, and that means we are right in the middle of an NBA season that really doesn’t count that much…and right before what is going to be the best MLB season in recent memory. Because of this, a media phenomenon that I made up is going to occur…and it is called “milking the cow.” The media is going to turn stories that really aren’t much of anything into long running, drawn out, drama (real or made up) laden soap operas.
That is why I am going to talk to you about Jeremy Lin! He is a 6’ 3”, 200 lb Point Guard on the New York Knicks, and until recently was only a bench player. The Knicks liked what they saw (they must of) in Lin’s effort coming off the bench, and because of that they gave him a chance to start at PG. In his first game as a starter he scored 25 points with 7 assists and 5 rebounds. In his next 4 games he has averaged 27.25 points and 7.6 assists since being named a starter. He has broken out as possibly the most valuable prospect in basketball right now, and the truly amazing part is that he has led the Knicks to a 5-0 record without their best player Carmelo Anthony.
This begs the question, how good can the Knicks be when ‘Melo comes back to play with Lin and Stoudemire. The Knicks have gotten a huge gift placed into their laps, and logic says that if ‘Melo is unselfish enough to work with Lin, then they are going to be a formidable force for a championship. Now, I don’t think they will even get to the Finals this year…but they could contend, and if Lin cuts back on the turnovers then they have a bright future.
As a side note, there is a lot of racial comments swirling around the Lin story, but I choose not to comment on ridiculous subjects. Have a great day guys, and for my fellow sports nerds…MLB 2k12 comes out on March 11! Yes! All Imma Do is Lin Lin Lin!
