#NerdsUnite: I just graduated college!! But um, now what?

<editorsnote> Nerds, meet my buddy Megan. She recently just graduated from SDSU and is now entering the world with a fresh pair of eyes in a stinky economy. In these series of posts she will discuss her thoughts and discoveries as she ventures out into the real world. Hit it Meg!!! </editorsnote>

One of the biggest lessons I've had to learn post-college is that CHANGE IS GOOD.

I've had a LOT of change is the last couple of weeks. Some good, some bad, some self-imposed and some completely unexpected.

I used to be terrified of change. Like panic attack, want to curl up in a ball and hide terrified. From going 3 hours south to college, studying abroad in Australia and taking the plunge into the social media world I have VERY slowly come to accept and even welcome the scary "c" word (No not THAT word, dirty birds!)

The biggest change for me you ask? A career shift. While I can't/won't go into detail, big things are coming for me in this department. It's so easy to get comfortable and complacent not only in life but especially in a job, to where you don't realize that you aren't living up to your full potential.

Even with a shit economy, lack of jobs, etc, you should NEVER have to settle. I learned this lesson the hard way and needed a very smart chickadee to kick my ass into gear. Don't get me wrong. It's not that I wasn't happy, because I was, but I think that when you're young (I'm only 23) you are afraid to take big risks.

But nerds, this is the time to take big risks! When you don't have a family of your own and giant responsibilities! Granted the risk was made for me (long story) but I started the ball in motion.

No one got anywhere worthwhile without taking a few risks. Even if things don't go EXACTLY as you had planned, the lessons learned along the way are life altering.

So to go along with this HUGE life change I have added a physical change as well. Changing my ever present blonde hair to red, and guess what? I couldn't be happier!

I leave you with this AMAZING song by The Avett Brothers, in which they wisely say "Decide what to be and go be it!"
