#Nerdy Thoughts On The Samsung Droid Charge
AHHHHHH!!!! I've had the new Samsung Droid Charge for about a week now (thanks to @alanajoy), and I gotta say - I am totes not mad at this thing. For real. Check out this video ...
Now, you have to understand one thing about my personality ... having the newest, and fanciest phone does ABBSOLLUUTTELLLYYYY nothing for me. Like nothing. nothing. nothing. If peeps get excited about it, whatevs great for the manufacturer ... I just want something that works for me, and works for my lifestyle. I'm a HEAAVYYYYY smartphone user, and completely connected to all of my social media channels 24/7. Give me a good camera, fast connection so I can monitor TNTML while I'm out and about - and I'm pretty much kosher for passover. I don't need any fancy bells or whistles, just gimme what I need to keep an eye on, and give it to me fast, and I'm cool.
Dude, I still rocked a first generation motorola droid.
This thing is so beat up from all my heavy usage it's not even funny. And DUDE! This one was replaced in like September!!! Totally bat shit!!!
Either way, I think you're getting my point here ... having the newest thing is kinda meh for me. I like what I like because it works and makes sense for me.
That was ... until I met the Droid Charge.
MAMA LIKES!!!!
I kid you not, this phone is hands down one of the coolest things I have ever owned. For reals.
The screen resolution on this thing is AMMMAAZZINNGGG. Straight up, the first thing I show everyone is a video - and they freak. I know they call it some super fancy pants thing - but it just looks so damn pretty you can't help but oogle it.
It's still taking me a while to get used to swype, and coming from a chick that types over 120 wpm, I believe that would be to be expected; it's like literally re-training my brain on how to speak. HAHAH!! Goodness gracious, it's I'm sure easy for a lot of people, but totally like reprogramming everything for me.
Did I mention that it also acts as a mobile hot spot?????!?!!! Dude, the other day, HIGH-LARIOUS and totally couldn't make this up ... I was having lunch with @noashaw and @zacwohlman - and it was totally classic. Noa had brought his laptop to have me help Zac with setting up all of his social media accounts - as he was shifting to having more friends than fans. (He is about to make his professional boxing debut. DUDE! He trains with Freddie Roachhhhhhh!!! EPIC!!) I sit down at lunch and Noa goes, oh their wifi here doesn't work. I smile, and say, have no fear - my MOBILE HOT SPOT IS HERE!!!! HAHAAHA!! The Charge also serves as a mobile hot spot for up to 5 lines. Pretty rad, and SUPPERRR easy to use - no different than a Mifi card.
I'm telling you, and no joke - that right there made my life. There I was ... in the field ... had a problem ... and poof, just like that, something that I had in my purse fixed it. Was super rad, man.
I've downloaded WhoSay, Twitter, Facebook, set up all my accounts - and I dunno, I'm kind of a happy camper. It's definitely a pretty nerdy phone and allows for a LOT of customization. I don't know if I'd suggest something like this to my parents, because even though they are tech savvy, it might be a bit too confusing. For reals, I pushed something at some point and totally negated all of my mobile data download - which was just WEIRD, but whatevs, I fixed it. It definitely takes a moderately tech savvy person to operate this phone.
Alrite, now for a few of the negatives. Although the screen size is absolutely ridiculous on this thing, it doesn't frame web pages. See, before on my Motorola, when I would view a website that didn't have a mobile viewing option, it would frame it even if it was really zoomed in - this doesn't. You have to move it over manually. Again, might not be a lot for normal human beings who view normal web pages on a computer - but for me, that was a nice feature.
And another thing, the battery life ABSSOLLUTTELLYYY blows. I'm going to have to get another battery pack, or some sort of extended battery thing. If you use the mobile hot spot option, grab your USB and plug it in, otherwise it will just EAT the battery life. With my heavy usage, I'm lucky if I get 6 hours out of this thing before it tanks. Don't like that ... but whatevs, again, at least there is something I can do about it.
The 4G is absolutely RIDICULOUSLY fast, which certainly beats the piece of crap motorola first generation that would LITERALLY take a SOLIIIDDDDD 3 minutes for TNTML to load. Used to drive me NUTS - but I just sort of dealt with it as I had no other option.
Again, happy camper. For someone that is moderately tech savy. The mobile hot spot option COMPLETELY makes my life, and there are some really rad camera features in this thing as well. HAHAH!! There is an option called "add me" that literally takes two separate pictures and can splice them into one. Very. Very. Very. Dangerous. It's got an 8 megapixel camera, with a front facing 1.3 megapixel one as well for video chat.
Thanks again so much to #droidchargederby and @alanajoy for the opportunity. Seriously, no BS, this phone rocks. I don't know the price just yet - but give it a little bit, and I'm sure it'll come down. It's super super super lightweight and totally alleviated me having to look into getting a mifi card. For that Samsung, I thank you.
