Who Shot First: Han or Greedo?

I'm sure we've all heard the phrase "Han shot first." What does it mean? Why the dispute? Well nerds and nerdettes, check out this original scene from 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope.
It's pretty apparent that Han shot first, but that's not really the issue. The phrase used by Star Wars fan's actually refers to George Lucas changing the scene in the special edition, released in 1997. The scene depicts Greedo shooting first and Han returning fire. In 2004 the scene was altered yet again to depict Han "dodging" the incoming shot. Here is the scene from 2004.
Now, why would good ol' George Lucas tamper with this scene? Nerds everywhere cried out with rage when they saw this. Lucas states that the change was made to show children that Han had no other choice. Nerds claim that this tampers with Han's morally ambiguous nature thus making Han's shift to the "hero" in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi less meaningful. In 2006, Lucasfilm offered both scenes in the DVD after petitions and seemingly endless nerd rage. Lucasfilm's commented on the 2006 DVD by saying, "...and yes, [viewers] see Han Solo shoot first."
Han Solo and George Lucas. Wait, what does Lucas' shirt say?
Nerds win this round. Han definitely shot first.
