Attention iPhone 3G Users

I know not everyone ran out and got the iPhone 4. Some of us are stuck with the 3Gs or even worse, the 3G. I fall into the latter category. The first thing I noticed with iOS 4 was that my phone was horrible. iOS 4 completely raped and pillaged my poor, outdated, little phone. At first I thought it was just me and my terrible luck. I've had the iPhone 1st gen since launch and I'm on my 6th or 7th iPhone to date. Just to put it in perspective, it's never been my fault. Headphone jack doesn't work, sim card port doesn't work right, phone decides to not turn on, and the list goes on. So, this isn't about me, this is about all of us with our iPhone 3G. iOS 4 sucks for us. It's fact. Here's video evidence for those lucky souls that don't have to deal with this.

There it is for all to see. Now, there is a way to speed things up and that's ultimately what this is all about. Turn off the spotlight search! For some reason, the iPhone 3G has a hard time handling the spotlight search. What is that you ask? When you go left from your home screen and you have that search bar... that's the spotlight search. It's been implemented for quite some time, and I don't know about you, but I've never used it. Not once. And I probably never will. Here are the simple steps to turn it off.

Settings -> General -> Home Button -> Spotlight Search (at the bottom)

It'll let you choose if you want to keep some of the search functions available. I found that turning them all off made my phone run just as fast as it did when I had iOS 3.1.3. I hope this helps, and enjoy!
