#NerdsUnite: 35 and single - now what? (Where Did my Mojo Go?)
<editorsnote> Nerds, meet by buddy Jeff. We met on twitter a little while back, and then over Christmas I helped him revamp his OKC profile. He's now here to talk to you about his life outside of the programming world. I only have one more thing left to say ... HIT IT JEFF!!! </editorsnote>
#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @Jtwebman
In my first post on TNTML I talked about how I split up with my girlfriend of 6 years and how hard it has been to get back in the game of dating again. Well I think I have found one of the huge issues. I need to focus on me. I have let myself get lazy and comfortable. I have stopped pushing myself to be a better person and to excel. Here are some of the signs I have found to prove my case.- I have worked for the same company for 9 and a half years though I get to work from home and make great money but it’s not pushing myself or my career.
- I am 40 pounds overweight though I have lost 20 pounds already from my max. Well ok I lost 40 and gain 20 back so I have 40 left. Dang it yummy pizza.
- I only work on videos (I make YouTube videos) or computer programming projects when I am really excited and once I am not I stop working on them.
- I can’t remember the last time I was nervous doing something (other then approaching women or meeting new people) in years now.
- I haven’t used my passport in over 5 years. This one made me really sad as I enjoy seeing and touching things around the world. Yea, I know touching is weird in that context but touching stuff makes it more real to me.
- I have stopped looking for things I like to do and tend to do the same thing each day. I go to the same restaurants and go to the same places around town.
So here is my plan.
- Stop working at a job and go out on my own. I know I can do it as I have done tons of consulting work in the past I just need to make the push and do it and stop holding onto the cushy job.
- Run and lift weights at least 4 days a week as well as run a Marathon this year. I have never ran a Marathon before though I did run a lot in the Marines.
- Start my show on programming news basically a weekly show talking about different things in the computer programming world.
- Go Skydiving, I have never done this but always wanted to.
- Start taking lessons on learning to fly a plane.
- Travel alone someplace where I need to use my passport and preferably somewhere that doesn’t speak English. I have never traveled alone before.
Now that is only 6 things and I want to push myself even more so I thought it would be fun to add some suggestions from you guys. So please tweet or comment below some suggestions on things I can do to stretch myself and get out of my comfort zone. After a week or so I’ll set up a poll and I’ll do the top things voted on. So if there is something you always wanted to do and you want to live vicariously through me send the suggestion my way. I will say anything goes as long as it sites morally with me and I have the money to do it.
