#WorstNewsEver: Skippy Peanut Butter Recall
WOOOAHH!! Chicago - heads up!
Per Chicago Tribune: The makers of Skippy peanut butter have announced a limited recall of two of its peanut butter spreads due to fears that it was contaminated with salmonella.
The recall, announced Friday, affects only Skippy's reduced Fat Creamy and Super Chunk spreads with use-by dates between May 16 and May 21.
The affected products were shipped to 16 states, including Illinois. A spokeswoman for Jewel-Osco, one of the Chicago-area’s biggest supermarket chains, said their stores weren’t affected by the recall.
Officials with Skippy's parent company, Unilever United States Inc., issued the partial recall after they became concerned that the spreads were contaminated with Salmonella, a potentially fatal bacteria, especially to young children and the elderly.
Anyone who may have purchased the peanut butter is asked to immediately discard the product and to call the company at 800-453-3432 for a replacement coupon.
