One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue fish-- all nerds unite to give a happy birthday wish! Whose birthday you might ask? Well the King Nerd himself, DR. SEUSS!!
The man who created more than 100 characters and stories encouraging children of all ages to read. Every kid (and even most adults) gotta admit they love the old man. I am sure all you nerds will love him even more after this story: Once upon a time I was being a nerd and wondering where the heck the word "nerd" came from and what it's dictionary definition was-- so I researched a little.
I found out that the first documented use of the word "nerd" is from Dr. Seuss', "If I Ran the Zoo." In the story, a boy named Gerald McGrew made a number of delightfully extravagant claims telling what he would do, if he were in charge at the zoo. One of these being, he would bring a creature known as a Nerd from the land of Ka-Troo! Seuss's word "nerd" ("comically unpleasant creature") was picked up by the five and six year-olds of the 1950's and passed on to their older siblings who were teenagers by 1957 and restricted and specified the meaning to the most comically obnoxious creature of their own class, a "square." ------but now my friends, it's not old school anymore. It's cool to be a nerd B) #NerdPride #WeComeFromTheLandOfKaTroo
So let's all put our hands together and sing a happy birthday to Theodor Seuss Geisel!
