#NerdsUnite: I just graduated college!! But um, now what?
<editorsnote> Nerds, meet my buddy Megan. She recently just graduated from SDSU and is now entering the world with a fresh pair of eyes in a stinky economy. In these series of posts she will discuss her thoughts and discoveries as she ventures out into the real world. Hit it Meg!!! </editorsnote>
#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @MegCorbs
I was lucky enough to go with Jen to Cal State Fullerton on Monday to watch her teach.
Lucky in the sense that when she tells her story her passion is always infectious and helps me get off my ass.
But also to meet all these amazing college kids (which I was in the category of until a year ago).
I have some advice for them (and anyone who will graduate/have graduated recently) that I had to learn the hard way.
NEVER SETTLE!
Yes we are in a shitty economy and yes it is hard to find jobs but PLEASE don't let that make you feel you have to take any job that comes your way.
You are unique and talented and have the diploma to show it.
So DON'T take a shit job.
DON'T lose focus of your dreams and passions
DON'T feel that you're just a name on a resume.
I know this is all nice in theory but we do have to work for a living. So maybe you have to take a shit job while you find the perfect one, but don't get comfortable there. Start a blog, website, youtube channel, WHATEVER, to continue working on what you love and perfecting your passion.
We are the generation that will be in history books. The ones that are TRULY getting screwed because of this recession but take that anger and frustration and turn it into drive and ambition.
At the end of the day we are all SO young and to settle in a shit job after accomplishing something as big as getting a college degree is more crazy than staying at home for a year tofind the perfect job for you.
