1789 - First congress adjourns. Yeah bitches, the government!
1793 - Tennis first mentioned in an English sporting magazine. Second time tennis is ever mentioned is in a French fitness magazine in 2006.
1890 - First pro baseball game; Washington Nationals vs New York Metropolitans.
1906 - U.S. intervenes in Cuba ousting dictator Estrada Palma. Over a hundred years later, it's apparent we just gave up.
1915 - First transcontinental radio telephone message is sent. "Look honey, I can talk to my mother every day!"
1927 - Telephone service begins between the U.S. and Mexico.
1930 - New York City College offers first class in radio advertising.
1940 - First U.S. merchant ship "Booker T. Washington" commanded by a black captain.
1947 - Record World Series crowd of 73,365 at Yankee stadium. They grossed $13.92... in 1947 that was like $1 million.
1950 - Telephone Answering Machine invented by Bell Laboratories. I don't know the last time I listened to a full voice message.
1962 - First Canadian satellite launched on U.S. Delta rocket. Canada... has a space program?
1963 - Rolling Stones go on their first tour. Coincidentally there's a national drug shortage.
1973 - Insurance industry announces that race car drivers are more prone to highway accidents. Yeah, that Prius doesn't handle like your F1 car. Go figure.
1977 - Muhammad Ali beats Earnie Shavers in 15 for heavyweight boxing title.
1989 - Zsa Zsa Gabor convicted of slapping a police officer in Beverly Hills. The cop probably deserved it. Trust me, Beverly Hills cops are dicks.
1996 - Nintendo 64 debuts in the U.S. That was my childhood right there.
