#Man version 2.0
#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @ChristopherAyan
I am an entertainment multitasker. You will frequently find me sitting in my room, listening to music, watching TV, reading a book, and surfing the web. I can’t help it. I cannot disconnect. If I am completely honest with myself, if it wasn’t for my iPhone, I probably would barely be able to leave the house.
But where others see a problem, I see none. It is through my constant need to be connected, to download new data to my internal hard drive (known to most as the brain or the noodle) that I have been able to make connections with people all over the world. Because of my “addiction” I am constantly learning new things, keeping up to date on world news, and sharing my stream of consciousness with the world. Through social networking I have been able to plant my flag in the mountain, and scream at the top of my lungs “This is me world, whaddaya think?”
It has been said (mainly by my father) that my generation (generation y) is the spoiled generation, the generation of instant gratification, and a need to be constantly plugged in. But I disagree. I say I am part of generation y-not? The awesome generation. Sure I have never had to walk up hill both ways, 10 miles in the snow to the library in order to do a report for school. And sure the last time I cracked the spine on a real book was two years ago when I bought my first kindle, but what is the problem with that?
I recently bought the Apple iPad. I love the thing like it is my child. But to be honest, it is not a tool for the faint of heart. This isn’t because it’s difficult to use (it isn’t) or because it’s fragile (again, it really isn’t), but simply because if you allow yourself to be, you will be completely consumed by the seamless integration of social networking, web browsing, movie streaming, picture looking, music listening, book reading and all around awesomeness of it. In a few words, this product was designed for those like me. Those who think one form of entertainment is boring, and 2 isn’t enough. Of course, like every other piece of technology I own, I went all out with my purchase of the iPad. I went hardcore and bought the 64 gig, 3g model. Because, let’s face it, what’s the fun in having the world at your fingertips anywhere in the world at any time, if you have to rely on a having a solid wi-fi connection available?
I suppose that my love affair with the technological could eventually lead to demise. But that would only be if the Machines took over, and the Decepticons brought the all-spark to my house. Because yeah, then I would be screwed, watching as my laptop turned into some aggressive robot. But until that happens, I am happy to stay connected. I am happy to always have some piece of web browsing technology with me at all times. You know why? Because I am running 2.0, the newest OS for modern man. It allows seamless integration between the digital and physical world. If you are still running 1.0, it’s really time to upgrade.
Oh yeah, and the day the Borg start assimilating people, let me know, because I am SO down with that.
