#Zombie Apocalypse

I've been reading a lot of The Walking Dead and doing a lot of daydreaming. What would I do in the event of a zombie apocalypse? Sure, laugh now, but you never know when the dead will come back to life and try to eat you. The most important thing is to be prepared for such an event. The following are some key points to remember.
Always have a weapon with you and know how to use it. Keep in mind that although zombies are dead, they can still use their senses. If you shoot a zombie, be prepared for any in the are to be drawn to the noise. Best practice is to carry a rifle as well as a sword / machete / axe of some sort.
Don't be afraid to pull the trigger. These are no longer people. Don't be fooled that just because your little sister is up and walking that it's really her. Once these zombies rise from the dead, they are no longer people. They won't stop until they eat you, so it's either you or them.
Go for the head. The only way to stop a zombie is to destroy their brain. Although they are dead, their brains still control their basic motor skills. Disabling their brain is the only way to "kill" a zombie. A shot to the head or decapitation should do the trick.
Keep your humanity. The world going to shit should be no excuse to become any less human. You can be more dangerous to yourself (or others) than the walking dead. Keep a journal or a diary. Writing is a great way to vent to keep from getting overwhelmed from stress. If you have someone to talk to, that's even better.
Never get surrounded. Although they are slow and dumb, zombies are most dangerous when they have you surrounded. Always keep moving when zombies are present and don't be afraid to run away. If you are trying to reach a strategic point, lead them away first and then run around. They won't know any better.
Stay supplied. Make sure you have any and all supplies you need. Your best bet is to raid the nearest military camp to stock up on weaponry as well as food. MREs (Meal Ready to Eat) stay good for years. They might not be the best eats, but food is food in a situation like this. Also, check out your local pharmacy and keep antibiotics with you. You never know when medicine might come in handy.
Find somewhere easily defendable. Somewhere with gates or fences would work best (eg a prison). Islands can work, but remember than the undead don't have to breathe and can walk on the bottom of the ocean. They can't, however, climb up cliffs, so an island like Alcatraz would be perfect.
Stay away from populated areas. Oh dear God, please. The more people in a given area, the more potential zombies. Never ever go into a highly populated area. Never.
These are the basics to be prepared for a zombie apocalypse. It may never happen, but if it does you'll be prepared in the most basic sense. Just remember, Morgan told you so.
