I know this movie came out in 2008, but Kyle Newman's Fanboys deserves some mad props. If you haven't seen it, this is something worth adding to your movie collection. Fanboys is rich with amazing cameos such as David Denman, Christopher McDonald, Seth Rogan, Danny Trejo, Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, and... wait for it... keep waiting... William Shatner. The list goes on and on, but you get the idea. Although the cameos are amazing and outright hilarious, it's the story that really makes the movie.
The movie is about four Star Wars fan boys who were friends in high shcool that journey cross-country to sneak into Skywalker Ranch to see Star Wars: The Phantom Menace before it's theatrical release. Despite his unintentional separation from the group after high school, Eric (Sam Huntington) happens to run into his old friends at a Halloween party. The idea is thrown around to go on this epic adventure which Eric originally finds crazy. The next day Hutch (Dan Fogler) and "Windows" (Jay Baruchel) fill Eric in on the dreadful news; his best friend Linus (Chris Marquette) who he hasn't seen in three years, has terminal cancer. Through some persuasion, their journey ensues taking them across the United States to Skywalker Ranch with some crazy stops along the way. After getting into some trouble with the law along the way, they meet up with their friend Zoe (Kristen Bell). After enlisting her help, they find themselves at Skywalker Ranch where their ultimate test awaits.
Guys, this movie is amazing! I'm a huge Star Wars nerd, so this hit a special chord for me, but that's not to say that you won't enjoy it too. Kyle Newman did a fantastic job with this movie and I wish him the best of luck on all of his future movies. ;)
