Fox's musical comedy hit "Glee" and HBO's gritty World War II miniseries "The Pacific" led the nominations list Thursday morning for the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.
"Glee" picked up a whopping 19 nods, including honors for best comedy series, and acting slots for stars Matthew Morrison and Lea Michel. "The Pacific" received 24 nominations.
In addition, Conan O'Brien received a surprise nomination for his brief and tumultuous tenure hosting NBC's "The Tonight Show" -- while his resurrected replacement, Jay Leno, was snubbed in the category.
"Glee" and ABC's fellow critically acclaimed freshman comedy ABC's "Modern Family" broke into the comedy series ranks, rivaling NBC's three-time winner "30 Rock," as well as HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," NBC's "The Office" and Showtime's "Nurse Jackie."
The final season of ABC's "Lost" may have divided fans, but the Academy awarded a drama series nomination to the show. The first season of CBS' "The Good Wife" also made the list, along with AMC's two-time winner "Mad Men," Showtime's "Dexter," AMC's "Breaking Bad" and HBO's "True Blood."
"Lost" also scored an unexpected entry the best actor category, with star Matthew Fox receiving a nomination. Fox will go up against last year's victor Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad"), in addition to Michael C. Hall ("Dexter"), Kyle Chandler (NBC's "Friday Night Lights"), Hugh Laurie (Fox's "House") and Jon Hamm ("Mad Men").
In the best actress in a drama category, Julianna Margulies scored a nomination for "The Good Wife," with Kyra Sedgwick (TNT's "The Closer"), Glenn Close (FX's "Damages"), Connie Britton ("Friday Night Lights"), Mariska Hargitay (NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit") and January Jones ("Mad Men") also receiving honors.
Joining Morrison on the list of comedy series actors: Jim Parsons (CBS' "The Big Bang Theory"), Larry David ("Curb"), Tony Shalhoub (USA's "Monk"), Steve Carell ("The Office") and defending champion Alec Baldwin ("30 Rock").
The nominees for best actress in a comedy include "Glee" star Michel, followed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus (for the final season of CBS' "The New Adventures of Old Christine"), Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie"), Amy Poehler (for NBC's freshman series "Parks and Recreation"), Tina Fey ("30 Rock") and last year's winner, Toni Collette (Showtime's "The United States of Tara").
New shows were expected to heavily impact Emmy nominations and nowhere was this more evident than in the supporting actor categories. Most of the cast of "Modern Family" will be in contention: Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara were nominated. "Glee" co-stars Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer received nods. "Good Wife" co-star Christine Baranski was likewise honored.

The nominees for best reality competition are CBS' "The Amazing Race," Fox's "American Idol," ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," Bravo's "Project Runway" and "Top Chef."
In the best variety, music or comedy series category, O'Brien will face seven-time winner Comedy Centra'sl "The Daily Show," as well as "The Colbert Report," HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" and NBC's "Saturday Night Live."
There seemed to be a reduced number of really notable snubs this year. But HBO's "Entourage" was finally squeezed out of the comedy series category. "House" didn't make the cut among drama series. Fans of FX's "Sons of Anarchy" hoped for a nod for Katey Sagal or, possibly, a drama series nod. "Cougar Town" star Courteney Cox was also denied.
The nominees were announced Thursday morning by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Freshman broadcast comedy stars Joel McHale ("Community") and Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family") revealed the contenders for the 12 major categories.
The Emmy Awards will air Aug. 29 on NBC, with Jimmy Fallon hosting from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony is airing live coast-to-coast for the first time in 30 years, with awards show veteran Don Mischer producing. The Awards typically air in September and were moved up to avoid conflicting with the network's Sunday evening NFL telecasts.
