Ice Cube... WTF happened to you?
#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @maniacalmorgan
This is your forewarning. This is very much a rant. Enjoy.
I don't know if it's just me, but I've been wondering this for a while. Since when has Ice Cube, one of the pioneers of gangster rap, turned into a family actor? Why sir? Why would you go from "Straight outta Compton crazy motherf**ker named Ice Cube / From the gang called Ni**az With Attitudes / When I'm called off I got a sawed off / Squeeze the trigger and bodies are hauled off..." to family friendly adventures such as "Are We There Yet?" or even worse "Are We Done Yet?"
I mean, to this day you still hear people bumping "It Was A Good Day" (1992) and even songs off of the album "N.W.A. and the Posse" (1987). You were the definition of gangster rap. Even your choice of movies was originally good with classics such as Boyz n the Hood and the Friday series. Gangster / rapper gone actor is seemingly common, but you don't see DMX doing the next Muppet's Christmas special.
Long story short, I'd like to see more rappers stick to what they are good at. When you decide you want to give acting a try, guess who gets to suffer through the repercussion? WE DO! Ice Cube, I'm sorry to use you as an example, but you aren't the only one. Ice-T is another example of someone with a breakthrough music career who decided to become an actor. Thankfully we are only exposed to him in small doses in "Law and Order: SVU." 50 Cent is probably the worst. I respect him as a musician and even as a business man, but movies like "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" and "Righteous Kill" only do my argument justice.
There's a number of others, but in light of not subjecting people to the inanities that flow from my brain, just do us all a favor. Stop. Take a deeeeeep breath. Realize that you aren't Will Smith. Write a song about it.
Was Mark Wahlberg ever a rapper?
