If "Phasers" Met "Light Sabers" ...
#TalkNerdyToMeLover's Awesome Applesauce: Charles Quevedo
"Star Trek" and "Star Wars" ... they're two of the biggest Sci-Fi franchises to ever exist in cinema & pop culture history. There's always been a rivalry between them (especially between their loyal fans at Sci-Fi conventions). Both franchises have been mythic in legend, being great influences in the Sci-Fi genre.
They've existed separately, both garnering cult-like status and a legion of worshipping fans. But what would happen if these two came together in a single film? I know, I know ... bringing up such a thing is Sci-Fi blasphemy.
About 15 years ago, I did hear on an entertainment television show that the bosses of both "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" had a meeting about possibly combining their two franchises for a movie. I even heard that two big stars from one of the franchises were interested in reprising their roles for this. Since such a movie NEVER came out, I'm guessing an agreement on how to approach it could not be made. It's a shame that such a movie wasn't made ... it would've been a nerd's dream come true.
Not everybody is too keen about the idea. This idea has been brought up many times before and lots of fans from both franchises are against such a union. They argue that they're both two different universes and would not mesh well.
"Star Trek" was set centuries in the future. "Star Wars" was set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. How would these two franchises come together in the first place? Any ideas? Well, there's always "time travel", "worm holes", "a transporter malfunction" ... it's really not that hard to think of a way to cross these two over.
If "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" came together, would they become enemies ... or allies? Making the two "allies" against a new intergalactic threat would be a logical choice for a storyline. Of course, a young cast of actors for new heroic characters for both franchises would have to be introduced, sprinkled with guest appearances of some old characters (maybe "Han Solo" ... "Luke Skywalker" ... "Spock" ... "Commander Data"). I wouldn't mind seeing an elderly Luke Skywalker taking a young Starfleet Academy graduate under his wing and training him to be a Jedi Knight.
Phasers. Vulcan mind melds. Light Sabers. The Force. The possibilities of this idea are endless.
