#Gamer's Guide: Matchmaking in Love!

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @CHICKAMUNGUS

We all spend lots of our time waiting in the game lobby to be matched with players of our skill level. But what are the odds that the gamer you are matched with, actually happens to be the love of your life?! Matchmaking in Love tells the stories of real gamers who happened to meet their significant others online, and gives you all a bit of insight to their every day lives.

I got the chance of interviewing Jiwan “xSangha” Adamson (formerly PMS Sangha), a 23 year old pro gamer from Canada, and got the scoop on her gamer love life! She and her husband H20 The Drizzle, who is now in the Army, met through mutual friends while playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live. She was immediately attracted to his great sense of humor and began playing Halo 2 and chatting with him on a daily basis.

Chicka: How often did you two play Halo 2 together, and did you chat more on XBL or on the phone?

xSangha: We played everyday together and for hours on end, any free time we both had we would spend either on the Xbox playing Halo 2 together or just sitting in a room chatting together. We definately chatted more on xbl than on the phone.

Chicka: How long was it before you actually saw a pic of each other? Did you even care about looks, and when you did see a picture, did he match your “type”?

xSangha:  I never saw a picture, I flew down to see him in person 2 months after we met on line. I didnt care about looks, but when I did finally see him, he did match my type :) After meeting him we hit it off so well I ended up moving in with him, a few months later we were engaged. Now we are married and have a child.

Chicka: How did he propose, and how did your family feel about you getting married to a gamer you met online?

xSangha: He proposed in the parking lot of a mall after a day of shopping, he came up behind me, hugged me, and then pulled out a little box from his pocket and asked me to be his wife! Not the most romantic, but it was cute and totally unexpected. My parents were wanting us to wait a little longer before we got married, they felt we were too young, but I dont think they cared that I had met my fiancee on line.

Chicka: What about your friends, did they feel as if this was taking away too much time from them?

xSangha: My friends supported it, but at the same time they did feel it took a lot of my time.

Chicka: How far did you move to be with him, and did you ever feel as if you were moving too fast?

xSangha: I moved all the way from Vancouver, Canada to Arizona to be with him :).  And yeah I did, I was sort of hesitant to move in so soon.

Chicka: Is this your first online relationship, and have you ever had a real life relationship? In your past relationships, did you move or travel to be with them as well?

xSangha: This was not my frist online relationship, and I had a few real life relationships in the past. I once travelled to an MLG from Canada to Philadelphia to be with my first on line boyfriend, cost me an arm and a leg, but it was definatley worth it!

Chicka: How often do you game now, and do you still play video games together?

xSangha: I game every day, some days more than others, it usually depends on if I have lots to do around the house or not and whether or not my teammates are online and ready to play. An ideal practice day usually consists of at least 4 hours of playing.  And No, we dont play games together anymore, we used to play Halo 2 together.

Chicka: I know that gaming with a husband or boyfriend can also act as quality time to gamers.  Since you no longer play the same games, do you feel as if your missing out on your gaming quality time together?

xSangha: Well he has given up gaming all together, so there is definitely an issue with spending quality time together when I’m getting in practice with my team before an event, but i try to balance it all out! =D

Chicka: Since you’re a hardcore pro gamer ;), do you see yourself gaming in the future, or do you see yourself doing something else in the next 10 years?

xSangha: I do see myself gaming in the future. Gears of War 2 is just around the corner and I hope to see it picked up for MLG’s 2009 pro circuit :). As for the next 10 years and gaming? I am not too sure about that one, we’ll see how it goes ;)

Chicka: Does your hubby travel with you to tournaments?

xSangha:  Since my husband is in the military and we have a son, he doesn’t travel with me to MLG’s, he stays home and watches our son and they cheer me on from home.

Chicka: Since you have experience dating online, do you think it feels more natural than having a real life relationship? And if you had the chance to do it again, would you think of having another online relationship?

xSangha: Sometimes it does… gamers do after all spend a lot of time on line. If my marriage was to fail and I had the option… I might. I might not….

You can catch xSangha on Xbox live practicing for the next MLG tournament. She specializes in Gears of War and Halo 3.
