And so, another "Golden Girl" passes into the night...

In case you hadn't heard the news this morning, Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche Devereaux on the hit series "Golden Girls" passed away. McClanahan is the third of the series' four stars to pass on, following Estelle Getty (Sophia) in 2008 and Bea Arthur (Dorothy) in 2009.
My immediate reaction this morning was this:
Estelle Getty in '08, Bea Arthur in '09, now Rue McClanahan in '10. Someone put Betty White in protective custody please.
(ooh, still love that fancy Blackbird tweet embedding!)
Now, I don't know how the Twitter hamsters work on their spinning wheels, but somehow, this happened:
Look at that fancy "Top Tweet" badge!
OK, enough self promotion. Seriously, this should put some perspective on how unexpected Betty White's career resurgence has been, given the deaths of her three co-stars. White was actually the oldest of the four "Golden Girls" stars, even older than Estelle Getty, who played Dorothy's mother on the show (in reality, Getty was a year younger than Bea Arthur and 18 months younger than Betty White). All the more reason we should appreciate new Betty White material while we still can. For now, we'll always have "Golden Girls" re-runs (every day from 5 ET - 7 ET on the WE network!).
