#Virgin stole my idea!!

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @Chickamungus

Very recently Virgin- the multi-gazillion dollar music/airline/space flight company announced that they will be starting a tournament based social networking site!  This will be a site where gamers can sign up to compete in various titles on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles.

It seems that Virgin Gaming is trying to change the game on competitive video game tournaments.  Right now the Professional Gaming biz is dominated by tournament organizations like Major League Gaming, World Cyber Games, and Electronic Sports World Cup, to name a few.  Being a former pro gamer myself, I will let you know that there is an extreme amount of time, dedication, focus, money, and life that you have to sacrifice to the gaming gods to be allowed to compete in these tournaments.  Virgin Gaming tournaments will allow competitors with the same skill level to compete against each other by matching them through their social networking site!

The games on the roster are:

Xbox 360- Halo 3, FIFA 10, NHL 10, NFL 10, NCAA Football 10

PS3- FIFA 10, NHL 10, NCAA Football 10, ModNation Racers, UFC Undisputed 2010, Madden 10, and Fight Night Round 4

More games will be chosen by the community once the site launches.

I don’t know about you, but this sounds like an awesome idea!  Whoever came up with this deserves a pat on the back….

WAIT!!

I came up with this idea a year ago!  After searching and searching for recruits for a Halo 3 team on the social networking site for gamers, gamertagpics.com, and getting the response, “I really don’t play that much”, a light bulb popped up over my head, and I thought to myself, “How cool would it be if there was a social networking site out there JUST for competitive gamers?”.  I wanted to build a site where gamers can network and communicate (facebook style) with profiles that was dedicated to their tournament experience and noteworthy gaming moments, and I‘d streamline the recruitment process by having a database of “free agents“.  I’d feature gamers every week, and even conduct online tournaments in which I would select the winners to be sponsored representatives of my site at live tournies.  *sigh* I even doodled on my imaginary idea pad the different names I could give it, but because of no monies, I put the idea on the backburner.  Now it’s too late.  Not only is Virgin in the mobile phone business (http://www.virginmobileusa.com/), they’re in the mind reading business!  They somehow found the technology to telekinetically reach into my brain and copy the idea from my imagination!  Can you sue for stolen ideas??

Not to be too dramatic, I really like the multi-level competition concept, and I hope Virgin Gaming can pull it off!  I checked out www.VirginGaming.com and saw the “coming soon“ message.  I‘m happy that a big company like this is stepping into the competitive gaming world!  They can do way more than I can with a site like that.  $1,000,000 in prizes more!  Distributed over a year’s worth of tournaments of course.  Or maybe even a prize ride to space!

With a big name like Virgin, who knows what galaxies (http://www.virgingalactic.com/) they may take competitive gaming?
