#E3's Kinect Launch Party

Kinect is a little box with an “eye” that tracks your body movements in a 1:1 ratio. You do it, it follows. That being said, the possibilities are endless. We’ve had peeks at some of the games that will be using Kinect: Kinect Sports, Your Shape Fitness Evolved, Dance Central, Kinectimals, and more. All these games that were previewed look fun in a family-fun environment. They also previewed a Star Wars game where you played a Jedi. Excuse me for saying so, but I’ve always wanted to wield a light saber and battle with Sith Lords. Check out the list of titles that are being launched with Kinect.

The June 14th event at the Galen Center, Los Angeles was Xbox’s version of a launch party for Kinect. This was a performance imagined by the folks at Cirque du Soleil with an Kinect theme. As to be expected from Cirque du Soleil, there were amazing acrobatics and mind blowing visual effects. They used their performers to show off the idea behind Kinect and its 1:1 movement ratio. As much fun as it was to see Cirque du Soleil, the videos and images provided for the videogames being demonstrated were all recycled from previous published material. It’s unfortunate that they weren’t able to show a live demonstration of Kinect, but with light up space ponchos, flash drive bracelets, and a live performance from Cirque du Soleil, I’d have to say it was a successful event.
