Oops... @BritneySpears Did It Again!

Well, it finally happened. After a few days of anticipation, Britney Spears (@BritneySpears) became the first account on Twitter to reach the five million follower mark. 

Britney is still well behind other major accounts when it comes to active Twitter use, but her fan base appears to be as strong as ever.

Or is it?

Obviously, Twitter is just one part of the social media puzzle. Another big part is Facebook, where Britney's only got 2.9 million "likers" (btw, that terminology still sucks almost as much as Facebook's privacy policies). In fact, there are 43 Facebook pages that have more "likers" than Britney, including 13 that have already surpassed the 5 million mark.

So what does all this mean? Well, it definitely means that you can't pin your social media brand on one platform, whether it be Twitter, Facebook, or a personal blog. You have to spread your message to reach multiple audiences.

Still, the 5 million follower barrier has been broken, and it's been done by my favorite entertainer, so let's all take some time to celebrate, Britney style!
