#BettyWhite = HUGE win for #SocialMedia
Today social media scored a MASSIVELY huge win!
(And yes, I will look the other way regarding the #Twitterbug and the YouTube hiccup this morning.)
(Per Huffington Post:) Betty White and the ladies of "Saturday Night Live" delivered a ratings boost Saturday night, lifting the show to its best ratings since the 2008 election.
Saturday's episode, hosted by White and featuring female "SNL" alumns including Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Rachel Dratch and Ana Gasteyer, averaged an 8.8 rating and 21 share. That's the show's best ratings since Ben Affleck hosted on November 1, 2008, just before the presidential election (9.0 rating, 20 share).
Betty White has a few projects in the works (like her new gig on TV Land) - however, her hosting gig was a direct result of the demand of a Facebook community page. Quite the change from the long over drawn PR tactic studios have been known to utilize to keep their stars "fresh and relevant" before a big movie premier. Do you people get it yet? TIMES HAVE CHANGED!! The people spoke! Over 500,000 of us wanted to see Betty host SNL - and when she did, we tuned in in MASSIVE numbers!
THIS IS HUUGGEEEEEEE for social media!! HUUGGEEEEEEE!!! We are starting to understand more and more that this "social media thing" isn't going anywhere - however, we seemed to miss the core component in our translation to traditional media - the action. Both the host, and the ratings were a DIRECT result of action taken via social media. We, the people, were reminding each other to watch Betty on SNL - we, the people, were the ones that demanded her. It was a community based mission - and the bottom line was, WE WATCHED!!!!
ARE. YOU. GETTING. THIS. YET! This is BIIGGGGGGGGG!!! HUUGGGEEEEEEE!!! HUGER THAN HUGGGEEEE!!!!
Pat yourself on the back folks! You gave yet another reason for the big wigs to continue shaking in their boots.
The revolution is progressing nicely ... #NerdsUnite
And OH YEAH PS. don't forget, we told you about Betty hosting SNL FIVE DAYS before anyone else did ...
& P.P.S. rumor is that Betty might even co-host the emmys with Jimmy Fallon. DUDE!!! I would TOTALLY WATCH!!!
