Fake glasses: overrated?

#TalkNerdytoMeLover's According to Adam

OK, I gotta admit. I get a lot of "nerdy" trends -- its one of the joys of being a multi-purpose nerd -- but this whole "fake glasses" thing totally escapes me (The one exception: Superman/Clark Kent. He needs the fake glasses to protect his secret identity. That's a noble cause, and fake glasses are fine if you're protecting truth, justice and the American way.) I was a real glasses wearer for the better part of 20 years and I totally hated it. They were uncomfortable, I still couldn't see well with them, they constantly got dirty and, most importantly, they looked stupid.

In 20 years of wearing glasses, I never found a pair that looked good on me. I hated how every single pair I wore looked, and I hated how I looked in them. Now, I'm not a hot nerdy chick like Jen, so I'm gonna look worse in just about anything, but glasses obscured what I think is my best feature: my blue eyes.

Also, glasses resulted in a series of horrible nicknames. The worst had to be my summer camp nickname (for like 6 years): Kareem. See, because I wore glasses, I had to wear something so I could see, but glasses are too fragile for baseball or basketball. So I wore something called "Rec-Specs", which, despite their use by some high-profile professional athletes, were an abomination. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar didn't wear Rec Specs, but he wore protective goggles, and that's who all the kids at my camp knew, so for six summers, I was "Kareem" (even though I was a short, fat, white Jewish Ginger).

I've never been happier since I got rid of my glasses, and can't imagine why anyone would want to wear them unnecessarily. Hell, there's no reason to have "fake" anything on you. Just be yoursef and your awesome will shine through (hopefully unobstructed by artificial lenses).
