RT: What Gives @PeteCashmore? @BenParr @GaryVee
STOP! Before you read any further and place any judgements on the following post, please read the original post first (FOUND HERE). Thanks!!
Alrite, I need to put this post to bed before it is any more out of control.
OOOHHH PETE!!!!!!! The wonderful, wonderful discussions you stir up!!! I can see why ... *sigh*
- Fact: I love Mashable.
- Fact: I love Pete Cashmore.
I give @PeteCashmore an ENORMOUS amount of credit for not only his amazing digital creation, Mashable, but the staff that he has represent the brand overall. They are all amazing writers. They are so articulate and frankly know their shiznat. I will always heart mashable. To even be IN this position where I need to explain myself to @BenParr, the CO-EDITOR OF MY FAVORITE SITE EVER ... is just incredible, considering 5 short months ago, this site did not even exist, and my love for mashable was only experienced from a far. See this post about the day Ben and I first spoke ... to say I was excited was an UNDERSTATEMENT!!! And btw Ben, I keep your business card in a frame on my desk as inspiration.
- Fact: I found Pete to be a bit douchey after the Grammys.
Plain, and simple. I NEVER EVER throw anyone under a bus. Life is a reflective experience, and everything in this site is pretty happy-go-lucky because I am pretty happy-go-lucky!!! If I throw someone under a bus, I am throwing myself under a bus ... and that lovers, would just not be pretty.
I am calling a spade a spade here, and if this bothers anyone - you might want to check your ego at the door. In my experience in life, if someone were to do something like crash the Grammys in the hopes of meeting me, I would be floored. No really ... that was some pretty gnarly shiznat I pulled off. I say that very humbly and matter of fact. It wasn't easy getting through all the security check-points, but again where there is a will there is always, always, ALWAYS a way! That moment in my life is something I will ALWAYS thank Pete for. He inspired me greatly to not stop this man-hunt in pursuit of pushing my own personal boundaries and version of reality while being able to market and promote it digitally. Dude, it was AWESOME!
Pete was phenomenally gracious. I'm sure I would have been a bit spooked too if someone just waltzed right up to me in a quasi-ambush manner and said hi! I crashed this major red carpet event just to say hi to you (which btw, once I met Pete - I literally turned around and left. I had laundry to do after all ...). Again, I understand not wanting to encourage the crazy people of America, but a SIMPLE "hey that was cool ..." would have been nice. Don't get me wrong, we have a twitpic ... again ... pretty gnarly. But COME ON!!!!!!!!!
Upon further prying, I even said ... alrite dude, remove me ENTIRELY from this equation, and just friend/ email/ tweet/ WHATEVER my friend Ali! Who btw, is a reader of the site, and is a MASSIVE Pete fan!!! I, of all people, get the Facebook limit. I KNOW you cannot have more than 5,000 friends - but COME ON! We're all VERY intelligent people, and when one door closes there is always a window to open. Send a TWEET, FACEBOOK EMAIL, SOMMEETHIINNNNGGGGGG to just say hi and thank you!
Look at @GaryVee. The dude replies to EVERY email he receives. I even personally received one from him!! Come ON!! I'm not asking for everyone to get together sing Kumbaya, and gab about American Idol, but come on ... SOMETHIINNGGGG!! I sincerely believe that Pete could learn something from Gary.
Social media is a fantastic tool for any brand to have conscious awareness of who their fan base is. Right THERE! DIRECT KNOWLEDGE of, HEY! this girl is a BIG fan ... and NOTHING!! You see what I'm getting at here??
Is this an attack? An all out war on Pete? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! That's your drama that you're attaching to an otherwise nerdy chick's point of view on something she labels as being douchey. That's it!
- Fact: I thought it was a bit douchey.
Have I done douchey things in the past? I wouldn't doubt it!! I'm sure someone, somewhere thought I took some weird misstep ... whatever! Am I perfect? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Far from it ... but I have a voice, I have an opinion ... and I don't stop expressing it. You don't have to agree with me, however at least be open minded enough to understand where I am coming from, and let's open up the conversation for discussion on something that could otherwise be just a massive misunderstanding. That's all ...
There.
That's my story. AGAIN, I'm sticking to it.
PS. Is this a bad time to ask for some love for the #FiestaMovement on Mashable?!? DUDE!! We totally just found out we're going to be featured on Current TV!!?! What ... bad timing?? =) hehe #nerdsunite
