Whedon-vengers Assemble!
#TalkNerdytoMeLover's According to Adam
By now, you've surely heard the news that Marvel is likely going to select Joss Whedon to direct "The Avengers", scheduled to come out in 2012.
This, of course, has resulted in the internet pretty much exploding in nerdgasmic joy. I mean it's Joss Whedon -- the man who gave us "Buffy", "Angel", "Firefly", "Dr. Horrible" and "Dollhouse", at the helm of Marvel's greatest Superhero team.
But... what if Whedon wasn't directing Marvel's Avengers? What if he was directing HIS avengers? What would that team look like? Well, let's take a guess.
The classic Avengers team is Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man, Wasp, Hulk, and Captain America. There have been dozens of lineup changes throughout the years, but that's the lineup I'm going to go with to form my Whedon-vengers.
We'll start with Captain America, who gets replaced in this universe by Captain Hammer (from "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog"). It just seems like the obvious choice. I considering going with Captain Malcolm Reynolds, who I actually like more than Captain Hammer (and was played by the same actor, the incomparable Nathan Fillion), but Hammer's got the superhero touch we need for this team.
There's no real direct replacement for Iron Man, so I'm gonna throw Wesley Wyndam-Pryce on my team here. He's got a dark side, like Tony Stark, and he's willing to make the unpopular decisions when he feels like they have to be made.
Hank Pym, a.k.a. Ant-Man, has had multiple super hero identities throughout his Avengers career, so a natural choice to replace him would be the multiple-identied Victor from Dollhouse. Just start him off with the imprint of a scientific genius and go from there.
No one from the Whedon-verse ever really "Hulks out", but our buddy Oz from "Buffy" can wolf-out, which is close enough for me. Plus, he brings much-needed sarcasm to this team. Sure, he's no Bruce Banner, but could Bruce Banner play a mediocre bass? I think not.
Time for some estrogen in Team Whedon, and who better to fill Janet van Dyne's spot as The Wasp than Buffy Summers, Joss's greatest creation. Like Janet, Buffy was self-centered and shallow growing up, but soon realized she had a greater role to fill in the world. Plus, a Whedon team just wouldn't seem right without Buffy in the mix.
Thor is a God. Willow is a Goddess (at least, that's what Kennedy called her after she cast the Slayer spell in "Chosen"). So I'm making Willow this team's resident deity. Plus, I love hot red-headed lesbians, so there.
I feel bad leaving out everyone from "Firefly", so let's just say that the headquarters for this Whedon-vengers squad is on board "Serenity". That way they can battle evil on other planets too, not just Earth.
So, that's my team. Who would you put on your Whedon-vengers?
AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!
