A day with Billy Idol ...
I had a really weird day today. No really, hands down ... a weird one ...
Working as a freelancer is fantastic. No really, I'm completely nomadic, and would not be able to do all the things I am doing with this website if I was working for an agency. However, when the shiznat hits the fan, and you get either sick or have family issues - it's for the dogs. My grandmother just passed away, but I had to sit there and log 6 hours working on a website redesign today for a client. Yes, 6 hours doing the most MONOTONOUS WORK IMAGINABLE!?!?!?!?!!?!? *Hello, gun? I'm ready for you ...*
Totally not kosher-for-a-person-in-mourning, er, passover. However, like Tim Gunn says, I "made it work!" I couldn't change the fact that my grandmother died, and I was really upset. I just said, okay - this is what's going on ... I have to do this redesign, I have to meet with this new client ... I can do this!!!!
I downloaded a bunch of Billy Idol songs last night, and very literally listened to Billy Idol for 12 hours straight. No really, I'm still listening to him!!!
Here was the playlist:
1) Cradle of Love
2) Rebel Yell
3) Mony Mony
4) White Wedding
5) Dancing with Myself
Those 5 songs ... and only those 5 songs ... for 12 hours. Seems strange, but there's something so upbeat about all of them, that no matter what if I just focused on the song, and felt the vibration of the beat my awesome would take over - and all would be okay. Sounds SOOO weird, but holy hell batman - it friggen WORKED!
I'm not saying that living in a state of denial is a good thing, or a healthy thing. But being a freelancer doesn't leave you a lot of options for personal days. I took the tasks at hand, picked up my boots, and rebel yelled babyyyyy!!!!
Thanks a heap, Billy! Totally owe you one for getting me through this otherwise tough day.
Headed back east in a few hours. Follow my FourSquare checkins while I explore all the sides of Unapologetic Awesomeness ... and dude, if you've heard any of the stories from my extended family ... you know this one is going to be good. oy! (... and I'm not even Jewish ...)
