Batman begins

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's Ponder This

Holy hell Batman! This is where it all began! Forget Christian Bale, this comic book really marked the birth of batman.

In the comic 'Detective Comics' #27, released in May 1939, batman had his first appearance. During six pages not only batman but also the character of Commissioner Gordon and the true identity of batman, Bruce Wayne was revealed.

It's been ranked at #1 on Overstreet's Top Golden Age Books list and is one of the most desired comics in the world, only topped by 'Action Comic' #1 (the first appearance of Superman).

If you're interested in buying it, here's your chance: it's currently on sale at the Heritage Auction Galleries. The auction's running until Feb 24, 10:00. But before you bid you should check your piggy bank, since the current bid is $418,250.

BTW, the comic 'Detective Stories' gave the publishing company DC Comics it's name. Before that, it was called National Allied Publications.
