Nerdy Thoughts on #HarryPotter Deathly Hallows
#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @UlaVovk
Soooo, the day has finally come for the majority of the world and I am quite confident to say that if you’re a true Harry Potter fan you’ve probably seen it already. Amirite?
But before I start, let me just say that this is going to be a review so if you haven’t seen the movie yet, do not read if you don’t want any spoilers. Also, this is only my opinion and I don’t care whether you agree or not. You are welcome to comment what you thought of the movie.
I went to see the movie on the 18th as this was the premiere date in Slovenia and first of all I have to say I was super stoked I am going to see the movie before anyone in USA (sorry but that’s one hell of a privilege as everything comes here after 1 month…). I went with a friend and we were trying to buy tickets since Monday (15th) and we finally got them on Wednesday, first show of the day! And it was freakin’ epic!!!
Overall it was an awesome movie just as I expected but I’d want to see more action or something, I don’t know. As I read all the books like a million times and the last one was the most awesome to me, I knew what to expect – first half of the book is very ‘quiet’, sad and so was the movie. Still, as it was longer than two hours and a half I found certain scenes unnecessary and totally pointless, not to mention so far away from the book I got a little pissed.
I have nothing against Hollywood movies but there is a big difference between those and British ones. And even though the cast is British (or Irish and Scottish in some cases), there is an obvious Hollywood influence in the movie – weird and clumsy love scenes that really don’t fit into this are just one example. And what was with that dancing in the tent between Harry and Hermione? I mean, seriously! If you don’t know what to do with a minute or two, best do nothing, don’t just go and make up some weird shit! It was so stupid, really. In my opinion, if you’re making a movie after a book (and when it’s such a masterpiece), try sticking to the book! Not doing so makes fans kind of pissy! Or is it just me?
Also, Kreacher... I think he (or is it ‘it’?) is one big part of the book as he finally accepts that Harry is his master and that he has a ‘mudblood’ friend. All he got was a short scene… It would be better if they extended this one and just left the dancing out of it, really…
Overall, I think some important scenes are way too short and some scenes are just not supposed to be there… Nonetheless, I still loved the movie and in half a year when the second part will come out I will cry my ass off when this story gets to a definite end.
I admit I cried a little in the movies but I’d cry my eyes out if it wasn’t for the people seating all around me. But because of their childish act (OK they were actual children but come on! You’re in the movies, DON’T TALK, DRINK BEER OR TALK ON THE PHONE if you wanna LIVE!). Nevermind, I’m waiting for the DVD release so I can see it for another 100 times and properly cry as Hedwig and Dobby and everybody else die.
I got my first book for my 11th birthday (how convenient, huh? J) and since then I was hooked for life. Harry Potter will be the first and the last book I read to my kids and if they won’t like it I’ll just disown them.
I better finish, I’m getting a bit misty here. Just one other thing I found on Tumblr today and it made my LIFE! J K Rowling explained what happened after 7th book.
“ Harry Potter married Ginny Weasley. They had three children, James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna. He became head of the Auror’s Department under Kingsley Shacklebolt.
Ginny Weasley played quidditch for the Holyhead Harpies. After deciding to raise a family, she retired and became Senior Quidditch correspondent at the Daily Prophet.
Hermione Granger married Ron Weasely and had two children, Rose and Hugo. Hermione went back to Hogwarts and sat her NEWTS before working for Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and helping house elves. She then moved to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement where she eradicated pro-pureblood laws.
Ron Weasley went to work with George at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes until he became an Auror for the ministry.
George Weasley married Angelina Johnson and turned Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes into a lucritive business. They had two children, Fred and Roxanne.
Bill and Fleur Weasley have three kids, Victoire, Dominique and Louis. Victoire seems to have a romantic interest in Harry’s godson, Teddy. She was named after the victory at Hogwarts, since her birthday shared its anniversary.
Charlie Weasley stayed single and continued working with his dragons.
Percy Weasley married a woman named Audrey. They had two daughters, Molly and Lucy.
Arthur Weasley went on as Head of the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects.
Albus Dumbledore had fallen in love with Grindelwald at one point when he was younger. He felt he had lost track of his morals while with Grindelwald, so after this he led a celibate and scholarly life.
Dudley Dursley went on to be married and have children. Harry occasionally went to visit with him, but did not maintain a relationship with the other Dursleys.
Rubeus Hagrid continued to work at Hogwarts and would have young Albus Potter to his hut to tea.
Neville Longbottom married Hannah Abbott. He went on to be the Herbolgy professor for Hogwarts.
Hannah Abbott ran the Leaky Cauldron.
Luna Lovegood married Rolf Scamander much later than Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny married. They had twin sons Lorcan and Lysander. She became a famous naturalist.
Firenze was allowed back into the herd.
Dolores Umbridge was arrested, interrogated and imprisoned for crimes against muggleborns.
Rita Skeeter kept writing. When asked about what happened to her, JK Rowling laughed and said she probably wrote a book about Harry after he defeated Voldemort.
Severus Snape’s portrait was not put in the headmaster’s office at Hogwarts because he resigned before he died. But Harry told everyone of Snape’s innocence.
The Defence Against The Dark Arts job is no longer jinxed. When Voldemort was killed, the jinx lifted and the school can now keep a D.A.D.A teacher for more than a year.
Draco Malfoy married Astoria Greengrass (younger sister of Daphne) and had a son named Scorpius.
Cho Chang married an unnamed muggle.
Mr. and Mrs. Longbottom never got to leave St. Mungo’s. When asked about them, J.K. Rowling said “The damage is done.”
Hogwarts is led by an an entirely new Headmaster (McGonagall was getting a little old).
J.K. Rowling lives wealthy ever after. “I’m dealing with a level of obsession in some of my fans that will not rest until they know the middle names of Harry’s great-great-grandparents,” she said in an interiew. But she also said “I love it. I’m all for that.”
