Farewell, #Footy! #Grandfinal ends the #AFL Season of Joy
#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @Rishegee
For those of you across the Great Southern Divide, also known as the Pacific Ocean, this past weekend was a very special weekend… also known as #AFL Grand Final – Round 2!
Yes, twas even trending on Twitter. Nothing like a bit of Aussie TTs to make us nerdy Ozzians all happy and gooey inside.
This was no ordinary Grand Final – while I have no need to discuss the winner, it is worthwhile mentioning we had our second ever draw – and hence a rematch, called for this past Saturday. In fact, we even got to reuse an old hashtag, as our original election hashtag #ausvotes evolved into #auswaits – oh yes, we are not unfamiliar with the concept of a draw this year with a hung parliament only several weeks ago – and now, #aflwaits. But I digress.
Now I owe a lot to AFL. Let’s not talk about the beauty and majesty of the sport, because I can be here for hours. Or the celestial joy that a Sunday afternoon in blustery Melbournetown can bring, rugged up in colourful team scarves and chomping on meat pies as you watch the seagulls fly over the MCG. I refer, of course, that were it not for my Twitter association with #TNTML’s very own @rustynath, thanks to our good taste in picking a team that makes navy blue blood run through our veins, I would never have been introduced to this site of joy.
So on the final day of the season, before we start worrying about our draft picks for next year and coaching changes, while we’re still merry and warm from the month of finals and have forgotten the pain of any early losses sustained (ahem), let’s raise our glass and sing that classic #footy song, the one our Grandpas sang… or something. Wikipedia has the full story here.
See you next year, boys.
Sad the footy season's over? Never fear, there's heaps left in tennis - and that's what @rishegee writes about.
