After a one night stand, all I got was a Facebook Request

In LA, you can't walk by a gaggle of girls without one of them having their arm outstretched screaming "wooahhhh, I am SO posting this on Facebook!!"

Facebook and Twitter have taken away the reins from the now "sketchy" Myspace and they are changing not just social networking, but our lives. Information once reserved for Sunday brunch with the girls, is now instantly micro-blogged on Twitter for the world to see. Whether one deems this as good or bad is irrelevant, it is here to stay; like it or not.

One question I have is, how "personal" is social networking? How many times have we all sat at dinner, and someone whips out their iPhone or Blackberry and starts checking their Tweets, or Facebook? Are we missing out on actually living a life by needing to post the ideal of having one virtually?

I'm just as guilty as the rest of the 250 million users, I enjoy keeping up to date on friends that are out of state, or in most cases out of the country. But I do believe in maintaining a degree of respect for those around you and not doing so while in the middle of dinner.

Do we need a social networking etiquette? Where and when it is okay to check and or update your status? Remember the birth of cell phones and how annoying it was to be standing somewhere while someone else you were with was on the phone? The worst is when you are in line at the store and the person on the phone does not even acknowledge the cashier. R-U-D-E!
The powers that Web 2.0 have unleashed have yet to even be registered. They are limitless with the amount of viral marketing, and instant knowledge we possess. Whether or not it is for the greater good has yet to be determined. I will say this, if you are dating someone, do not dare post that you are "in a relationship" until both parties have discussed it, and you are ready to hear the opinion of your 500 friends. That's great, another thing girls have to worry about when it comes to dating. *Sigh*
